    Kwanzaa is a 36-year-old African-American holiday now celebrated in African communities around the world. Its roots are both modern and ancient.

    The Kwanzaa holiday is celebrated with various rituals over the seven days following Christmas.

    Food is a major part of Kwanzaa festivities; the word Kwanzaa means "first fruits" in Swahili.
